(Update) Police ID Man Who Drowned While Fishing In Haverhill River

The body of a missing canoer who was pulled from the Merrimack River this weekend has been identified, according to authorities.

Michael Ventura, of Apple Street in Haverhill, was fishing in the Merrimack River about 75 feet from the shore of 44 Margin Street on Sunday, June 24, the Essex County District Attorney said. Witnesses said he fell into the water and never surfaced.

Witnesses tried to reach Ventura but were unable to save his life. 

Haverhill Firefighters found his around 6:20 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, Massachusetts State Police Spokesperson Dave Procopio said. 

This comes after the body of a missing 20-year-old kayaker was also found following a multi-day search at Westfield's Pequot Pond, as also reported by Daily Voice
